German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to visit India in Feb

New Delhi: German Member of Parliament (MP) Tilman Kuban has confirmed that Chancellor Olaf Scholz will be visiting India in February with the aim of significantly expanding overall cooperation in areas of trade, defense, clean energy and climate change.

It will be Scholz’s first visit to India after he became German Chancellor in December 2021 following Angela Merkel’s historic 16-year tenure at the top post.

In December, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock paid a two-day visit to India ostensibly to prepare for Scholz’s long-awaited trip.

Kuban is travelling to New Delhi and Hyderabad as part of a five-member MP-MLA delegation trip on the topic of Trade and Digitalization, which is being organized by the KAS India Office.

This delegation visit is primarily focused on enhancing trade ties with India and Free Trade Agreement with the European Union. Citing Prime Minister Modi’s Make in India pitch, the German MP said, “We are also exploring manufacturing in India. There are a lot of employees in India. They are talented.”
